2023 HOTRODS N HILLS |
The lake district is such a quiet peaceful place, but at one time of the year it is the meca of some of the best vehicles you will ever see and it turns a nice quiet village into a V8 full force zone of noise and beautiful things other than the wildlife and hills, though some would say the wildlife viewing, well is a little different?! The Hot Rods & Hills was held at Park Foot Caravan park in the foothills of Lake Ulswater in the lake district, the one thing that sets the hot rods and hills apart from all the rest of the shows is, its not a show, as a normal show weekend will end with the Sunday show field being filled with all sorts of classic & american cars of all shapes and sizes hoping to get a trophy at the end of the day this event is about enjoying you’re cars, no show and shine this is about driving the pride and joy you own and spending time with friends that you may have not seen for some time, bonus of being at park foot is a short walk down the waterside you are in pooley bridge with a shops, pubs and all sorts of goodies to buy, when you are finished a short walk back to camp to have a walk around and take in all the american and british custom & hot rods is a must, and as a bonus to the weekend the sun was out for most of the weekend melting you to a pile of goo, as apose to some years in the past where waterproof underware wouldn’t have saved you on the highest part of dry land! If you didn’t manage to make it upto the on site shop for some ice to help you reform yourself back to feeling almost human again and the bar was open to help you along too. The Hot Rods & Hills is the only event to hold 3 cruises over the weekend, Friday, Saturday & a Sunday run out if you wish as with the heat I did see a few heads hanging out of the windows to try catch a breath of cold air to help cool them down god help you if you had leather seats that’s all I’m saying! A nice walk out with something cold in your hand did help and if you didn’t there were places that could help with that problem if you get my drift! The waterside on Sunday normally has a few people sitting on the rock side enjoying the sun but as we walked down on the eve of the day I have to say I have never seen so many people sitting out and going for a swim in the lake, even our dog Shadow went and had a paddle, most unusual for her to be honest but then again its not often you see a Husky in an inflatable boat and not having a care in the world. The Hot Rods & Hills is the place to just chill and see everyone you don’t get to see under the normal circumstances it’s a hot rodders paradise and all that thanks go to Craig Dixon and his crew for putting on such a great event for us all to enjoy, the added bonus of this being a campsite is you can book it for before the dates and after the event date most people do and book it as the annual holiday having a week away with the event being centre stage right in the middle of the holiday, fantastic idea if you ask me. As it is the lake district the cruises vary on the types of roads it can be a tight country road to the infamous Kirkstone pass where only the strongest survive! Over the years they have had loads of sub 10 second quarter mile cars do the pass, they are all road legal of course, but all said and done the Hot Rods & Hills is one for the calendar so make sure you get booked in 6th of June -9th June 2024 you would be best calling ParkFoot to book and say you are with the HotRods.
